Making of the McDog
Little known fact about McDonalds; they actually did sell hot dogs for a brief time in the early 90s, all the way up to 2012!
But of course, its been dead for quite a while for the common McDonalds. For only a small time they sold them as standard menu items, before being relegated to seasonal items and then further to Japanese exclusives. But with the upcoming MLB Playoffs, what better a time than to make a fake Mcdonald’s Ad for the McDog.
Here’s my initial sketches. I will openly say they arent much, but let me dig a bit deeper.
When you google “McHotDog”, this will usually be the first thing to come up. This is an example of a somewhat recent (in McHotDog terms) official advert for the McHotDog. But… it doesnt really feel like a modern Ad from McDonalds, does it? I mean of course it isnt, but its important to note how they marketed it when it was around.
But why bring this up?
McDonalds has a Style. Of course they do, but really; they have a style. One that I aim to replicate.
I have about 2 weeks to turn my sketches from bad ideas to realized false advertising. That’s my goal. When the poster I created is displayed for the world to see, if I can make at least one person think its real, i’ve done it.
I want to match the style of McDonalds so well the common person would be hyped to purchase a McHotDog for the MLB Playoffs… only to be upset when they realize they’ve been duped.
See you soon…
